Last month, LPFC argued against a tax measure in Orange Cove:
Voters in Orange Cove already said no to extending Measure O on Nov 7, 2023. But City Officials will keep trying to take $263,965/year, despite your clear, democratic rejection!
Maybe they think you won’t notice it this time.
If the Mayor and City Council believe that the safety of Orange Cove is at risk without this funding, then why haven’t they made this a priority in their regular budget? Clearly, your safety is not actually their greatest concern.
Instead, it is a way to guilt you into paying even higher taxes when you are already feeling the pain of higher costs at the grocery store and gas pump. Now they want to raise the costs of your housing, your small business’ office spaces and storefronts, and more! (Even if you rent, those costs will be passed on to you.)
What Orange Cove residents need is tax relief so that they can make ends meet in this difficult economic time.
At least when the tax was first introduced in 2014, there was a 10-year sunset. This tax extension has NO EXPIRATION. Did leaders use the past 10 years (over $2,000,000 already collected) to find other ways to make sure Orange Cove was safe and help put money back in your pocket?
No – They have no intention of cutting existing budgets to fund these “essential” services. You will be on the hook FOREVER!
Don’t reward poor monetary management and budget decisions with more funding!

Fresno County Voter Guide, 2024 Primary
Every vote has been counted, but the fight is not over:
A public safety tax measure extension in Orange Cove failed by two votes. Now, the city manager plans to ask for a recount.
…
The measure would have levied $95 per parcel, raising about $263,000 a year. Parra said it was an extension of an existing tax.
“In these smaller jurisdictions, every vote really counts. And, of course, they want a recount. They want their tax money,” said Fresno County Libertarian Party vice chair Kat McElroy. She wrote the opposition to Measure O in the county voter guide.
Only 17% of Orange Cove voters turned out for Measure O.
